My husband loved the picture of the 2 girls running on the beach the best and I'm still torn between all 6. I can't say enough about the quality of your photos and the time you spent w/ our family.    We chose to call HHI Portraits for our family beach portraits because we were so drawn to the gallery images on your website. We were extremely pleased with the fact that you only schedule one appointment each evening. We felt very comfortable knowing that we wouldn't be rushed. Thank you for attending to every detail of the appointment from directions to dress. We also appreciated how you were very professional during our session, but informal at the same time so everyone felt at ease. Thank you for being so patient with our mid-west kids who were totally enthralled and distracted by the sand and surf.     Words cannot describe the beauty and sense of peace and tranquility captured in the portraits David Gerwels took of our two daughters. When we look at them on our walls, we stop and catch our breath. Everyone who sees them stops to look and the comments generally are "Wow, they're beautiful" or "The person who took those photographs is amazingly talented."

    At sunrise, we were on the beach of Hilton Head with our daughters (ages 8 years and 3 years old), David, and his assistant. The photo shoot lasted approximately 45 minutes and during that time, David took many, many beautiful pictures. We enjoyed watching him work as he was clearly thinking of the end product the entire time. He captured the light, the ocean, and the sand beautifully and used this backdrop to make our girls' features stand out.

    The photo shoot was conducted professionally and David and his assistant were extremely polite. They were very patient with two small children and gave clear directions on what it was they were to do. As a result, the process was extremely pleasurable.

    When we went to view the proofs, the professionalism continued. David worked with us, patiently, as we tried to select the best from an array of stunningly beautiful portraits. To say that it was difficult to choose is an understatement. However, throughout the process we did not feel any pressure. But, David was able to guide us towards making the right decisions for our family. The portraits that we chose are so beautiful and will be treasured forever.

    Each day we notice something new in the portraits that demonstrates David's artistic and talented eye. For example, there are two portraits taken several minutes apart. In one our oldest daughter is facing in one direction, in the other, our youngest is facing in the opposite direction. When placed side by side, as they are now over our piano, the impression is that one photograph was cut in half. Somehow, this talented photographer, using little girls as the feature, managed to create one whole from two parts. In the background, the pattern of the waves lines up exactly. In the foreground, the reflections of our two daughters are symmetrical. The sun's reflection on the wet sand is identical in each portrait. It is truly amazing.

    We selected quite a few portraits, of different sizes, and it is too difficult to choose a favorite. Each portrait has its own unique characteristic and feel. We knew that we wanted to have a number of different portraits to capture the wonderful experience we had with David.

    However, in my kitchen, where I can see it all the time, there is a stunning portrait of my two girls walking hand in hand towards the ocean. The serenity, beauty, and composition are difficult to describe but I look at it constantly. In addition to capturing a beautiful moment, the portrait seems to tell a story: A story of two sisters, moving together as one, toward the great expansive world in front of them. The portrait leaves me wondering where they will go on their journey.

    I am truly grateful to have had the experience of working with David Gerwels of Hilton Head Island Portraits. It was a sincere pleasure.
